Welcome to Taking Charge, my blog detailing my experiences with Testicular Cancer. Yes, that's right, I have testicular cancer. I was diagnosed on April 15, 2010, by Dr. Greenberger, a urologist in Orange County.
I'd like to begin with an apology. I have kept my diagnosis private from the vast majority of people in my life. At first, I struggled with whether or not to reveal my illness or the particulars of my treatment. However, after having some time to come to grips with my condition, I have decided to share.
Hopefully, my openness regarding my testicular cancer will be useful in a number of different ways. First, being diagnosed with testicular cancer has been such a life altering event, that to not share it with the people I care about, and who care about me, seems incredible dishonest. I have testicular cancer, and hiding that fact does nothing to change my condition, so I might as well be open about it.
My second reason for sharing my condition is selfish. Having to deal with testicular cancer is a struggle. My emotional state has swung from extremely hopeful, to angry, to depressed, and back again. I hope that by blogging about my fight against caner, I can work something out.
Lastly, and maybe most importantly, I want to get the word out about testicular cancer. Guys, if you haven't done so, reach done and check your boys out. No, seriously, do it now. I'll wait... If your love life has lost its spark, have your special lady or guy friend (hey, TC doesn't discriminate) do it for you. If you have questions on how to do a self-exam, please check out this link. Anyway, if this blog raises awareness about TC or is useful to someone with TC or their loved ones, then it will have served a very important function.
Well, that's it. Again, welcome to Taking Charge. I will be updating it in the days and weeks to come. Feel free to post comments or to get in touch with me. Thanks for reading!
